Harper Lee wrote To Kill A Mockingbird in 1960. At that time The United States America was a very racist country. The british colonisers killed the indigenous people and brought slaves from Africa. The colonisers wanted the white people to be the superior owners of the country and all other “races” to be the servants. This caused the White people from the 1930s to be racist towards other racial groups. After the abolition of Slavery the White people in the south of the united states still believed that the Blacks were Inferior to them. Harper Lee saw this as an issue. She wrote a book that told a story through the view of a 6 year old girl living in the south of the states (alabama). She is growing up with her older brother and Father that is a Lawyer. Judging by the family they are quite wealthy.
